Youth Learning Institute Website

Patrick McMillan, Clemson biology professor, educational presenter and host of SCETV’s runaway hit television show, Expeditions, has joined the YLI team as Director of Natural Resources to oversee outdoor education programs!

Since 1991, more than 70,000 teachers like you and their students have attended our exciting outdoor education field study programs. Our partnership with Patrick McMillan brings exciting new ways to inspire and engage students in learning when they participate in any of YLI’s nationally recognized environmental field study programs. Whether it’s Teaching Kate, E-Tech, LEAD or our new marine science field study program, Sewee Science Expeditions, Patrick’s informative, entertaining approach to nature exploration helps kids understand their connection to their world.

Remember—all of our outdoor education programs align with state science standards and provide as much learning in a power-packed, 3-day/2-night learning experience as students get in two weeks in the classroom! Fall sessions run September through December and fill quickly, so reserve your spot today!

Also, Patrick McMillan will be at the South Carolina Science Council Conference on Thursday, November 5 in the exhibition hall, so stop by to meet him!

And don’t forget to join over 110 million viewers across 20 states who watch Emmy nominated Expeditions with Patrick McMillan! The show airs Sunday’s at 6:30 pm on SC-ETV!

NABT BioClub

Maybe you are not aware of the new adventure begun by the National Association of Biology Teachers called BioClub.  This project just started with this school year, and it was designed by high school biology teachers. Carolina Biological Supply is helping to support the BioClub project and they are offering a $100.00 gift certificate to all BioClub faculty sponsors. Additionally they are sponsoring a $500.00 book scholarship to a graduating senior of a BioClub.  Additionally, at the NABT annual conference in Memphis of this year they are helping to sponsor a BioClub reception to help introduce this exciting endeavor. You can either start a new biology (science) club at your school and be a member of the BioClub or, if you already have such a club in place, keep that club intact and become a BioClub chapter. Give some consideration to joining this absolutely wonderful project by becoming a BioClub faculty sponsor.  It will help your students, and it will help add some excitement to your teaching.  Check out the NABT BioClub website at http://www.nabt.org/sites/S1/index.php?p=653
